It's nearly summer and what better time is their to get your yoghurt fix. I love my yoghurt for breakfast or in-between meals for that protein fix. The yoghurt I'm reviewing today is Chobani yoghurt. It a number 1 selling American yoghurt brand and has just been released in Australia this month. I hear it has a cult-like following in the US.

So, what's it like? I've fallen in love with it. It's Greek yoghurt with real fruit at the bottom. It's thick, creamy and has this lovely texture. It has just the right amount of sweetness. None of that sickly sweet taste a lot of flavoured yoghurt's tend to have. I love my plain greek yoghurt and tend to avoid flavoured yoghurts but this stuff is great. It has double the amount of protein as regular yoghurt (12g of protein per serving), uses all natural ingredients and is free of preservatives and artificial flavours. Best of all it comes in fat free and 98% fat free varieties.
.
The top of the yoghurt. Below it is fruit filled. Hopefully you can see the texture I'm referring to in this photograph.
.
The mango flavour. Here you get to see the fruit filled bottom of the yoghurt.
.
The fat free flavours are strawberry, blueberry, peach, strawberry and vanilla. The 98% fat free yoghurts are the mango, passionfruit and pineapple. My favourites were mango and pineapple. I'm a tropical kind of girl.

Although an American company, in Australia Chobani is committed to supporting our local farmers. They have a Melbourne-based plant in Dandendong. What's good to hear is that the company gives a portion of their annual profits to charities worldwide through their Shepherd's Gift Foundation, the company's charitable arm. The company has only started in October 2007 and since then it has grown remarkably.
.
Where can you get it? It's available in NSW Woolworths stores for $2.29 for 179g. Just noticed it the other day in the yoghurt isle. Although at Woolies it actually retailed for $1.99. Here is a store locator on their Aussie website.
.
If anyone has already tried it, what did you think?

I was sent some of this too but to be honest I wasn't really smitten with it at all :(
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of yogurt but your post has got me craving some - I think I'll try the yogurt one!
ReplyDeletei love yoghurt but I don't eat the flavoured ones as they're too sugary - I like to flavour them myself. I loved the Chobani plain yoghurt in America, is it going to be available here, too?
ReplyDeleteHannah- Same. Normally not a fan of flavoured ones. Much prefer to flavour them myself. At the moment it's sold in NSW Woolworths stores. Here is a store locator.

Thanks for this fantastic post, Maryanne! We're thrilled to have made our way to Australia and look forward to building a local family of fans.
ReplyDeleteLorraine, we're sorry to hear our flavors didn't totally wow you. If you'd like, we'd be happy to send any flavors you didn't receive. We're confident there's at least one that will knock your socks off.
Hannah, it's good to note that our sugar is all natural. It takes 3lb of milk to make just 1 lb of Chobani, so there is a higher concentration of lactose (a natural dairy sugar) than in regular yogurt. As for the remaining sugar, it's just real fruit and less than a tsp of evaporated cane juice added to the fruit on the bottom. Our Plain will surely make its way to Australian shelves. It's just a matter of time!

This looks SO good!!! I love how thick it looks. I love greek yoghurt, and like you normally tend to avoid flavoured yoghurts as they usually taste fake and are full of sugar. I am going to have to check this out. I wonder if they are available at my local supermarket.
